I think that most pastors who cheat on their spouses due so mainly because of Lust. Satan knows that if he can bring down the pastor he can often destory the church - or at least mess (in some way)with the faith of the believers (particularly new believers) in the church... so I think that is one of the pivital places for demonic attacks. .. he comes in subtle like a lamb, using warm and caring feelings and turning them to obsessive lust.. I have seen it many times and I have been on the receiving end of the unwanted attention a pastor ~ had I not made the right choices things could have ended very badly, unfortunately for that particular pastor they did eventually anyway as he continued to lust..
Anyway, sorry to ramble on, .. so yep I think it's a lust thing more often than a fear of failure thing....

I have been pondering a similar post Alex. I think we often overestimate how 'biblical' we are and underestimate how 'cultural forces' have shaped theology. What it does for me is makes me much more gracious to those who see the world differently!

I see the difference being that a for-profit business will make their money selling their product or service to their clients whereas non-profits are attempting to provide a service to their clients who often cannot afford it.

What Zuckerberg has missed is that when people donate to a non-profit they too are aligning themselves "to build something great that serves people." Indeed, far more so than in a business because there is often very little return for the donor other than the "feel-good" factor.

Lets face it, in a church for instance, the unfortunate aspect of ministry is that we have to pay for it!

Many pastors worry about finances, and to do what they want to do, help their community, love people, money is needed. And sometimes we can get distracted from what is important...but what is necessary.

I think the big 3 (Catholic, Anglican and Uniting) still have the biggest pieces of the Christian pie in Australia, at least on paper. Although they're declining while Evangelical and Pentecostal groups are experiencing modest growth, people don't really know what 'Baptist' is and the average Aussie thinks 'Pentecostals' are weird.

I agree Mark. The media needs to get comment from the more mainstream and contemporary churches. I also think they need to show different churches at Easter and Christmas on the news. Instead of tired old churches that are half empty, they need to show some of the newer contemporary ones that are packed to the rafters.

Just a quick update to let you know that in addition to what I say in this video, I am now also encouraging people to update their Twitter and Facebook pages during Church services, as I preach. Here’s why …

1. It’s a form of public/social note taking (it gives you and others a record to refer to).
2. It let’s your twitter and facebook friends know that you think church is important.
3. It shows that what we teach at church is relevant to daily life.
4. It screams out that our church is contemporary and relevant to today.
5. It’s free advertising (I encourage people to add a church web site link to their comments).
6. It has a potential global reach.

And here are some ground rules:

1. Resist the temptation to surf facebook or twitter when you ought to be listening for God’s voice.
2. Be clear in your posts, not cryptic (i.e. resist using shorthand if possible).

Great thoughts Alex, love it. I enjoy reminding older leaders that our nation straps 21 year-olds into fighter jets worth millions of dollars - at that age, that's a heck of a responsibility! But with the right training and support, why not?
